Akshar-Purushottam Darshan is the classical name given to the set of spiritual beliefs based on the teachings of Swaminarayan. The Akshar-Purushottam Darshan is the 7th school of Vedanta.

                                     

1. Overview. (Обзор)

Spiritual seekers believe they can achieve Moksha, or liberation from the cycle of birth and death, becoming aksharrup or brahmarup, that is, achieving qualities, the Akshara or Aksharbrahman and worship Purushottam or Parabrahman, the Supreme being, God. An enlightened guru is always manifest on earth and is the form of Aksharbrahman, which is the eternal nature of the influence of Maya, or worldly attachments and shortcomings. By communicating with them and understanding that Aksharbrahman guru, also called the Satpurush, Bhakta or Ekantik Sant spiritual seekers can come under Mayas influence and reach spiritual perfection.

The main sources of Akshar-Purushottam Darshan is Vachanamrut, which is a collection of 273 discourses orally delivered such as were described by his senior disciples during his lifetime, Vedaras, complex letter to his monastic followers to restate his teachings and providing moral instruction, and Swamini Vato, a collection of oral comments made Gunatitanand Swami, who was Swaminarayans senior student and his successor as guru in the lineage of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha BAPS. Other sources, specifying the Akshar-Purushottam Swami include Bhagatji Maharaj, Shastriji Maharaj, Yogiji Maharaj and Pramukh Swami Maharaj, who in the order of the successor Gunatitanand Swami guru in the Swaminarayan temple traditions, and the Mahant Swami Maharaj, the current guru.

Followers of BAPS special emphasis was placed on dogmatic statements written by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, under the name of Swaminarayan Darshanna Siddhantono Alekh, which summarizes the Akshar-Purushottam Darshan. In Swaminarayan-Bhashyam published text written Bhadreshdas Swami in 2007, which expliciet the roots of Akshar-Purushottam Darshan in the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and Brahma Sutras. This confirms the classical Sanskrit treatise, also authored Bhadreshdas Swami called the Swaminarayan Siddhanta-Sudha.

                                     

2.1. Metaphysics. Ontology. (Онтология)

Swaminarayans philosophy centers on the existence of five eternal realities, as indicated in two of his sermons described in the Vachanamrut, Gadhada 1.7 and 3.10 Gadhada:

Bhagavan purusottama, Aksarabrahman, Maya, īsvara and Jīva – these five entities are eternal.”

Of all the Vedas, Purānas, Itihāsa and Smriti Scriptures, Ive already got the principle that Jiva, Maya, īsvara, or Brahman and paramesvara all eternal.”

                                     

2.2. Metaphysics. Purushottam. (Пурушоттама)

Purushottama, literally the Supreme being is called Parabrahman Supreme Brahman, paramātmā and the Supreme personality, the Supreme Parameshwar, ishwar. He is the ultimate existential reality and the highest of the five eternal entities, God. Nature of Purushottama in the Akshar-Purushottam Swami is conceptualised in four different aspects:

  • Sarvopari supreme: Purushottam is the highest singular entity that transcends all realities. Swaminarayan taught that Purushottam is one and incomparable:" After all, there is only one form of God. This God is extremely powerful and no one, including Akshar, is capable of becoming like him. This is an established principle.” Vachanamrut, Loya 4.
  • Karta all-doer: All actions in the universe ultimately depend on Purushottam, who is the final cause of all causes and the inner-controller of all entities. Even though jivas and ishwars have independent agency, no action can be performed without the support and will of Purushottam. The process of liberation entails developing this realization. Swaminarayan stated:" The jīva’s liberation is attained only by the following understanding: All that happens is by the doing of the manifest form of. He is called Paramatma.

    Verse 15.18 the following describes purusottama as the superior, and, thus, differs from, even Akshar: < / p>

    यस्मात्क्षरमतीतोऽह मक्षरा दपि चोऽत्तमः । < / p>

    अतोऽस्मि लोके वेदे प्रथितः पुरुषोत्तमः च ।। < / p>

    I am above kshar and Akshar is superior even. Thus, I am known as Purushottama in the world and the Vedas. < / p>

    Swaminarayan also says in his sermon in Vachanamrut Gadhada 2.3:" Parabrahman, which, Purushottama Nārāyana, is different from Brahman, and the reason, support and inspirer of Brahman.” < / p>



                                     

2.3. Metaphysics. Maya. (Майя) < / i> < / h3>

Maya is only one of the five eternal realities, which is insensitive. This is the main substance from which the material world is formed and is characterized by three qualities, Gunas – sattvaguna, rajoguna, and tamoguna. He also serves as the ignorance of the Jivas and ishwars – seen as ego, i.e. I-ness, and investments, ie, my-ness, – causing them to be bound in a continuous cycle of birth and death. Only Purushottam and Akshar forever to go beyond Maya. Jivas and ishwars seeking liberation from the endless relocation may surpass it, linking up with Akshara in the form of the Brahmaswarup guru who makes these souls brahmarup or aksharrup, i.e. qualitatively similar to Akshara, thereby making them eligible for selfless devotion to Purushottam. < / p>

                                     

2.4. Metaphysics. Ishwar. (Ишвар) < / i> < / h3>

Ishwar refers not to God, but a finite rational being covered by Maya, like the Jiva, but endowed with special powers and knowledge to perform a variety of functions within a particular Universe. The Virat Purush, Brahma, not to be confused with Brahman, Vishnu and Shiva are examples of ishwars in the Akshar-Purushottam Darshan. These gods to revive the scattered forces of nature, including the Sun, moon, wind, etc. < / p>

                                     

2.5. Metaphysics. Jiva. (Джива) < / i> < / h3>

Is a separate Jiva, the individual soul, i.e. the finite rational creature. The Jiva bound of Maya, which hides his true self, which is characterized by eternal existence, consciousness and bliss. There are an infinite number of Jivas. They are very thin, indivisible, impierceable, ageless and Immortal. 2.6. Metaphysics. Cosmology. (Космология) < / i> < / h3>

3. Soteriology. (Сотериологии)

The main objective of devotees is Mukti, escaping from the bondage of Maya and circle of birth and death, which is the cause of all suffering and sorrow. Swaminarayan has described Maya as soon as the feeling of I in relation to the body and my-ness towards everything connected with the body” Vachanamrut Gadhada 3.39.

3.1. Soteriology. Liberation. (Освобождение)

Katha Upanishad 6.14 also says:" through the firm Association with the Brahmaswarup guru, one attains immortality – the state brāhmic here.”

                                     

3.2. Soteriology. Praxis. (Праксис)

Swaminarayan advised those who seek liberation, to attain Mukti constant Association with and guidance of the guru Brahmaswarup, or the human form akşar on earth. Through this process, the spiritual aspirants to overcome the influence of worldly attachment and past actions are known respectively as the Maya and karma, and instead cultivate the quality of Aksharbrahman. States Swaminarayan in Vachanamrut Gadhada 2.31:" the Jiva acquires the virtues of that Brahman, if he associates with Brahman through continuous contemplation”.

                                     

3.3. Soteriology. Ekantik Dharma. (Ekantik Дхармы)

Ekantik Dharma is four-fold system of spiritual praxis that the applicant must pay in accordance with the Ekantik Sant, ie Brahmaswarup guru, in order to provide spiritual liberation. Ekantik Dharma, also known as Bhagavad-Dharma, includes the following four aspects:

  • Vairagya – dispassion towards worldly pleasures.
  • Dharma – righteous living by observing the moral codes of scripture.
  • Bhakti – selfless devotion to God while realizing his greatness.
  • Gnan – realization of oneself as the atman, distinct from the body.
                                     

4.1. Epistemology. God and Guru. (Бог и гуру)

The highest and most direct form of revelation, when God reveals himself in human form and reveals himself as a God and the nature of Purushottam and Akshar. Similarly, the guru explains the Akshar-Purushottam Darshan through his sermons and in everyday life. Its ontological setup as Akshara makes it stand out as a perfect transmitter of brahmavidya. Hence the Mundaka Upanishad 1.2.12 indicates:

तद्विज्ञानार्थं ಸ गुरुमेवाभिगच्छेत्समित्पाणिः श्रोत्रियं ब्रह्म निष्ठम्॥

To understand what brahmavidya, only to give up a guru who has realized the sastra, is manifestee Aksharbrahma, and ever firm in the Paramatma.

                                     

4.2. Epistemology. Scriptures. (Писания)

The teachings of God, Purushottam and guru Akshar are the basis for the Scripture to be sources of revelation. 4.3. Epistemology. Vachanamrut

In Vachanamrut holds such teachings compiled during his life, between 1819 and 1829. Because such worship as puruṣottama, his teachings are the primary source of revelation. Thus, the Vachanamrut is the primary Theological text of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya, revealing the doctrine and practice of Akshar-Purushottam Darshan.

Paramtattvadas explains:" in fact, for the devotees, the teachings of Swaminarayan in Vacanāmrut represent the most direct and reliable sources of knowledge about God. What could be germinal, scattered and abstract in the other texts can be gathered more clearly and specifically than ever in Vacanāmrut. To be more explicit, for such traditions, Vacanāmrut – delivered personally by itself-showed Parabrahman and heard, i.e., received through the guru Brahmasvarūpa. is the culminating revelatory text that its theological doctrines are defined and documented.”

For example, the essence of Akshar-Purushottam Swami Swaminarayan explain in his sermon on the Loya 12:

Countless millions brahmāndas, each surrounded by eight barriers, appear as mere atoms in Aksara. Such is the greatness of the Aksara, the abode of Purushottama Nārāyana. The one who is offering Upasana to Purushottam realizing yourself as this Aksara, we can say we have achieved a high level of resolute faith.



                                     

4.4. Epistemology. Swamini Vato. (Свамини Вато)

In Swamini Vato is a collection of the sermons of Gunatitanand Swami. He draws a lot from the Vachanamrut and also provides other Hindu texts." By exploring, developing, and providing further insight into many important teachings Vacanāmrut in Svāmīnī Vāto served in the tradition as a natural commentary on it.”

                                     

4.5. Epistemology. Swaminarayan Darshanna Siddhantono Alekh. (Сваминараян Darshanna Siddhantono Alekh)

On Guru Purnima in 2008, Bochasan, India, Pramukh Swami Maharaj, Swaminarayan wrote Darshanna Siddhantono Alekh and dogmatic report the basic principles of the Akshar-Purushottam Darshan. He stands as one of the most valuable and most venerable theological sources of revelation for the members of temple of the Swaminarayan fellowship.

                                     

4.6. Epistemology. Prasthanatrayi

Three sets of sacred texts, known as Prasthanatrayi include the Brahmasutras, the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. As the canonical Hindu texts, they are also a source of understanding of the Akshar-Purushottam Swami, when read according to the teachings of Swaminarayan. Mahamahopadhyaya Bhadreshdas Swami commented on the Prasthanatrayi with the teachings of Swaminarayan. His five-volume the Swaminarayan Bhashya the commentaries to the Brahmasutras, the ten major Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. These ideas were synthesized and systematized in Swaminarayan-this-Sudha classical dialectic treatise opens with the exposition, the justification and protection of Akshar-Purushottam theological and philosophical principles for Darshan.

                                     

5. Essence. (Суть)

Pramukh Swami Maharaj summarizes and clarifies the Akshar-Purushottam Swami and not the worship of two entities – the Aksara and purusottama. Rather, it means to be aksararūpa and Parabrahman of worship.”

Swaminarayan Mantra. (Сваминараян Мантра)

This is the meaning of Akshar-Purushottam Darshan is encapsulated in the’ mantra provided Swaminarayan to devotees on 31 Dec 1801. Swaminarayan, although one word, actually consists of two terms: Swami, who is Akshar and Narayan, which refers to Purushottama. Swaminarayan’, so synonymous with the Akshar-Purushottam’, instructing devotees to" become like Swami’, i.e. aksararūpa, and subserviently offer devotion and Upasana for Narayan’, that is, the Parabrahman, Purushottama Nārāyana.”

                                     

6. History: revelation and propagation. (История: выявление и распространение)

Akshara-Purushottama Swami revealed Swaminarayan 1781-1830. He was neither a devotee or Acharya, but believed by his followers to be the manifest form of Parabrahman Purushottam. His sermons, many of which were collected in the course of his life as Vachanamrut, thus, serve as a direct revelation of the Akshar-Purushottam Darshan.

Swaminarayan also revealed Gunatitanand Swami 1784-1867 repeatedly as the embodiment of Akshar and thus, his first spiritual successor. Gunatitanand Swami, through his sermons collected as Swamini Vato explained, such as Parabrahman Purushottam.

Pragji Bhakta 1829-1897, known as Bhagatji Maharaj, who received this knowledge from Gunatitanand Swami and especially as it propagated the Akshar. Bhagatji Maharaj was the second spiritual successor of those.

Shastri Yagnapurushdas 1865-1951 known as Shastriji Maharaj, received a revelation from Bhagatji Maharaj and after his own historical and theological research in support of Gunatitanand Swami as Akshar and Purushottam as such, established their sacred images in five traditional stone temples. Thus, he brought the conditions of Akshar and Purushottam together, popularizing the Akshar-Purushottam name, when it was formally established the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Shri Swaminarayan Sanstha temple. It multiplies basic doctrine of Akshar-Purushottam Darshan, i.e. the worship of Purushottam realizing himself as Akshara, based on the teachings from Swaminarayans teachings of the Vachanamrut and Gunatitanand Swami from Swamini Vato. He was the chief spokesman of the Akshar-Purushottam Darshan.

Shastriji Maharaj, the third spiritual successor to such 1892-1971 followed Yogiji Maharaj and Pramukh Swami Maharaj 1921-2016, which are subject to the beliefs and principles of the Akshar-Purushottam Swami across India and abroad. They are considered the fourth and fifth spiritual heirs Swaminarayan, respectively.

Currently, the spread of Akshar-Purushottam Swami is headed by the Mahant Swami Maharaj b. 1933, who is a real guru in the guru lineage Parampara temple in the Swaminarayan tradition is regarded as the sixth spiritual successor to those.

Although these are not the author of the commentary on Prasthantrayi, guidance, blessings and guidance of Pramukh Swami Maharaj, Bhadreshdas Swami wrote the Swaminarayan Bhashya, five volumes of the complete review in all three sacred texts Prasthāntrayi, i.e. Brahmasutras, the ten major Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita based on the teachings of Swaminarayan and the successive gurus. After a critical analysis of the Swaminarayan-Swaminarayan Bhashyam and the Siddhanta-Sudha, the Council proclaimed in a written statement:

In Prasthānatrayī-Svāminārāyanabhāsya and Svāminārāyanasiddhāntasudhā sacred texts in Parabrahman Svāminārāyana showed Aksarapurusottama Darsana. These Holy texts in every image of the defenders of the eternal Vedic religious tradition.

All known scientists, respected Mahāmahopādyāya sadhu Bhadreshdas is an ācārya, and a modern commentator in the Lineage of commentators on Prasthānatrayī.

In philosophy, as the Ashram of Sri Shankara to Vedanta is defined as the Advaita-Darsana, the Ashram of Sri Ramanujas Vedanta is defined as Visistādvaita Darshan, Ashram of Sri Madhvas Vedanta is defined as dvaita Darshana, the Ashram of Sri Vallabha Vedanta is defined as Suddhādvaita Darshan, and other, respectively, it is known, is in all respects suitable for the identification of Sri-Vedanta is Svāminārāyana name: Aksarapurusottama Darshan.

So we all collectively approve that this Aksarapurusottama Siddhanta, which had been identified Parabrahman Svāminārāyana different from Advaita, Visistādvaita, and all other teachings and Vedic Siddhanta.

Present during the Declaration were prominent scientists of the Council: Mahamahopadyaya Ramyatna Acharya Shukla, President of the Kashi Vidvat Parishad, Mahamahopadyaya Acharaya Vashistha Tripathi, Vice President of Kashi Vidvat Parishad and former Vice-Chancellor of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Mahamahopadyaya Pandit Shivaji Upadhyay, General Secretary of the Kashi Vidvat Parishad and former Vice-Chancellor of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University Acharaya and Ramnarayan Dwivedi, Secretary of Kashi Vidvat Parishad.

The Declaration was later presented to the members of the Kashi Vidvat Parishad, as the inscription of a copper plate, in a public meeting at Swaminarayan Akshardham, new Delhi, August 13, 2017. This led to several public congratulations texts and Bhadreshdas Swami, including in Vadodara, Gujarat, Vice-chancellors and representatives of 27 universities and in Bengaluru, Karnataka, Vice chancellors from 35 universities and representatives of 5 other. Akshara-Purushottama Swami have also been recognized as a separate school of Vedanta in the plenary session on the 17-th world Sanskrit conference organized by International Association of Sanskrit studies, University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, on 9 July 2018.
