★ Reader (Christian Science Church)

A Reader in a Christian Science church is a member of the congregation who has been elected to serve in one of two positions responsible for church services. Each weeks sermon in Christian Science churches is outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, prepared months in advance, and is the same in all Christian Science churches, worldwide. A lay church, the congregation elects readers from the congregation and the serve as readers for a period of time, the sermons consist of passages from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, are studied as lessons during the week and are read aloud to the congregation on the Sunday following.

1. Duties of Readers. (Обязанности читателей)

The Christian science Church was founded in the Church was the founder Mary Baker eddy. The principal responsibilities of readers in the Church of Christian science are established in the manual of the Mother Church, written by eddy. The mother Church and its branch "churches" around the world have two readers, which are referred to simply as first reader and second reader, in the order in which they initially speak during the Sunday service.

The user first gives the reader more responsibilities than the second reader. He or she selects the hymns, selects and reads: "Biblical choices", a brief prelude to the sermon, and the blessing, and the Bible, makes the announcement, and reads aloud the sermon quotes from science and health with key to the Scriptures Mary Baker eddy. The second reader reads the Bible and leads the congregation in audible repetition of prayer. A small personal comment about the lesson-sermon is offered, but the "explanatory note" printed in quarterly is read before the lesson-sermon is begun.

In addition, the first reader conducts a weekly Wednesday evening meeting readings, selecting and reading passages from books on the subject, how he or she inspired. The first readers to choose their own seats, not using the previous lesson-sermons or other indications. The second reader has no role in the meeting, but attended the meeting as any other member or visitor.

Readers require the user to "highlight the portion of their time to prepare for the reading of the Sunday lesson" and they must "keep himself unspotted from the world, cleansed from evil, - that the mental atmosphere they exhale shall promote health and Holiness, even that spiritual animus so universally needed." Article III, section 4 of the regulations prohibits readers from reading anything except the actual book, however, in February 2012 the Christian science journal, the Board of Directors, the administrative body for the organization, worldwide, hinted that this practice was just "tradition" and "human rules" and churches, should not abide in the law. As a result, now some readers read with a monthly version of the Quarterly, in which the lesson-sermon is printed in full, not outlined.

2. Appointment and status in church. (Назначение и статус в церкви)

Readers of the Mother Church shall be elected consisting of five members of the Board of Directors, the separation of Church elect their own readers from the entire membership. There are no campaigns for reader. Readers of the Mother Church to serve for three years, branch of the readership the Church office depend on the regulations of the branch of the Church. There are no campaigns for reader and there is no discussion before the election. Handing out blank sheets of paper and bulletins to rely on each individual meaning that is most spiritually developed people. Usually people only elected reader once in a lifetime, but becomes a replacement for other readers, as needed. Traditionally, the former first readers to substitute only for other readers and the second for other readers, the second readers. When the former, the reader moves in and changes the branch membership, a new branch was informed about his or her past, thus adding to the supply of available substitutes.

Readers are not treated as clergy, they are ordinary members and are treated as such. However, first readers, as indicated in the instructions, is responsible for the discipline and for the observance of the principles, norms and regulations in the sphere of the Church and all first readers, current and former, especially charged with supervision of the mother Church officers in the event of failure to perform "official duties". All members are charged with this oversight, but special emphasis is placed on the first readers.

All readers in branches of the Mother Church manual requires members of the Mother Church. Membership in the mother Church does not require removal of the members of the Church, but most of them.

3. Weddings and funerals. (Свадьбы и похороны)

Because readers in the Church of "Christian science" is not clergy, they are not authorized to judge the wedding. Members of the Church, another denomination of the priest to fulfill this need. The Christian science faith has no specific requirement funeral services or how such services could be held, so readers have a specific ritual function. However, if a memorial service at the request of someone, a reader or other Christian scientist can choose a few short passages from the Bible and eddys writings for such purposes.

4. Pastor and preachers. (Пастора и проповедники)

In 1894, Mary Baker eddy added the following ordination to the manual:

I, Mary Baker Eddy, ordain the BIBLE, and SCIENCE AND HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIPTURES, Pastor over The Mother Church, - The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass., - and they will continue to preach for this Church and the world.

In the "explanatory note" on the role of readers, the Bible and Science and health and begins with the phrase, "friends: the Bible and the Christian science textbook are our only preachers." In particular, readers in the Church of Christian science are neither pastors nor preachers.
